Nice & Holy Place in Pura Besakih

Pura Besakih
Known as “Mother Temple”, Pura Besakih is the biggest temple in Bali and the most holy place for Balinese Hindus. Besakih sits on the western slop of the Highest Mountain in Bali, Mount Agung.
Pura Besakih is located in the village of Besakih – Karangasem Regency, about 62 km from Denpasar.
Tracing its origins to prehistoric times, the complex was untouched by the great 1963 eruption of Mount Agung, which wiped out surrounding villages.

There is a total of 18 separate sanctuaries, the three main temples are : Pura Penataran Agung, Pura Kiduling Kreteg, and Pura Batu Madeg. Pura Penataran Agung is the Biggest Temple in Complex. The complex also houses the oldest remaining gamelan instrument in Bali called selonding. Odalan - The temple ceremony falls on the 10th month of the Balinese calendar, in April.
